The TBYO had its first rehearsal on September 19. 2018 at the Guam Museum Theater in the Capital of Hagatna, Guam with 38 members from Guam and Saipan. The purpose of the TBYO is to provide a venue for youth musicians who are 25 years old and under to perform a vast repertoire of music. The modern American orchestra traces its roots back to the popular ensembles of Europe during the 16th to 19th centuries. America's orchestras have created their own identity and now perform music written for Broadway musicals, soundtracks to movies and video games. Additionally, since all members of the orchestra must undergo a rigorous audition process, we believe each member is capable of being a great solo performer. The TBYO is also a platform for our regions best and brightest up-and-coming music scholars to perform the masterworks of their specific instrument. Of course, the great composers of the 16th to 19th century still inspire and influence the music and musicians of today. The TBYO aims to perpetuate the great music of the past and perform them for modern audiences to enjoy. It is our goal to encourage, nurture, train and promote our region's youth music scholars. We are confident that through their experiences with the TBYO, our members will musically contribute to their schools, the community of Guam and Micronesia, and the World. In May 2022, the TBYO has joined the League of American Orchestras. New members are welcome to join at anytime. Please e-mail [email protected] for more information. |
