PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Exploring Careers through Music ™ is a new career education partnership between the Guam ACTE, the Guam Philharmonic Foundation, Incorporated and PBS Guam aimed at highlighting local professionals with often hidden musical talent, who continue their musical proficiency through active music making. Through quarterly public talks and career expos, Exploring Careers through Music ™ aims to provide Guam’s youth the access to people and programs who can mentor Guam’s future generation into various career fields while encouraging continuous participation in music making. Marcus Landon Aydlett
Warning Coordination Meteorologist, National Weather Service trumpet Prior to his arrival on Guam, Landon Aydlett was stationed at the U.S. Army’s Kwajalein Atoll Reagan Test Site in the Marshall Islands. Aydlett served as a Launch Weather Officer for SpaceX launches and U.S. Military missile defense tests. He graduated from North Carolina State University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. Landon also keeps busy outside of the office with his involvement in the Guam Territorial Band, serving as a musician and as their Public Affairs Officer. He also served as president of the Hagu Foundation, a non-profit he co-founded to engage the community of Guam on suicide prevention and awareness. His civic engagement reached new heights in 2022 when he and his twin brother broke two Guinness World Records for building the world’s tallest and largest toy timber structure. They used this record attempt to raise $20,000 for the Habitat for Humanity of Guam. Aydlett continues to aim high through extreme Lincoln Logging with new projects set for the year ahead. Marcus Landon Aydlett is currently the Warning Coordination Meteorologist with National Weather Service in Guam. |
Krystal Paco San Agustin, MPA, CM
Director of Communications for the Office of the Governor of Guam vocal/saxophone Krystal Paco-San Agustin is a woman to watch. A former KUAM News Anchor and Reporter, she joined the Leon Guerrero-Tenorio Administration in 2019 as Press Secretary and now serves as the Director of Communications for the Office of the Governor of Guam. Within her first year in government service, she was named 50 Under 40 Emerging Leaders in the Government of Guam. Krystal is also an adjunct instructor at the University of Guam where she teaches her students to combat their fear of public speaking. Krystal is a host of the Academic Challenge Bowl and a former host of the locally produced CHamoru children’s TV show, Nihi! When she’s not at work, you can find her performing weekly with her band “The Frequency” or in local productions. Her theater credits include Gigi in Miss Saigon, Maureen in Rent, Diana in A Chorus Line, and Tanya in Mamma Mia! As a saxophonist, she’s also performed in world famous venues with the Guam Territorial Band, including the Sydney Opera House and Carnegie Hall. |
Captain Benjamin Hutto, PharmD
United States Air Force tuba Dr. Benjamin Hutto is originally from Plainview, TX and 2007 graduate from Wayland Baptist University with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He joined the United States Army in 2008 as a musician. While at the School of Music, he was recognized for his outstanding musicianship distinguishing himself among his peers for his performance on tuba. After completing his time at the US Army School of Music, he went on to spend a couple of years at Ft. Rucker, Alabama before moving to Heidelberg, Germany. During his 3 years in Germany, his group earned back-to-back musical team of the year awards. After 8 years of active-duty service, in 2016, Dr. Hutto began working on a PharmD at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, TX. During his time at Incarnate Word, he was selected for the Health Professions Scholarship Program by the United States Air Force. In 2020, after earning a Doctor of Pharmacy, Dr. Hutto was assigned to Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX. While living in San Antonio, he played with the Heart of Texas Band. After two years at Lackland, Dr. Hutto was reassigned to Andersen Air Force Base where he currently serves as a pharmacist. Since living on Guam, he has performed with the Guam Territorial Band as well as the Tumon Bay youth Orchestra. Dr. Hutto is accompanied in Guam by his wife, Staci, and 3 daughters, Natalie, Avree, and Kinsley. |
Louisa Borja
Former senator, Program Coordinator for the Comprehensive Cancer Control program for the DPHSS vocals Louisa Borja currently holds the position as the Program Coordinator for the Department of Public Health’s Comprehensive Cancer Control Program. She is the daughter of musician, David Borja, who performed with many local groups, but most notably, the Radiants. Louisa has been singing with the Radiants since 1990 with her father and sister, Lynn. She served in the 34th & 35th Guam Legislature with a strong platform for cancer advocacy. Prior to serving in the Legislature, she was the Program Director and radio host for 105 The Kat radio station and co-creator and host for a local TV program, My Story. My Story featured cancer patients and their stories of their journey. Music has been a constant presence in Louisa’s life since childhood. Her journey in the music industry began immediately after high school, and regardless of the paths she explores, music remains the cornerstone of her endeavors. |
