The Stringstars

The Stringstars, a violin ensemble of String Stars, LLC, formerly the award-winning DoReMi Music School, was formed with four original members in 2016 under the direction of Mr. Ao Zhang. Over the years, they have won gold medals in each of the Tumon Bay Music Festival they participated in and was the Sweepstakes Award Winner at the 2019 Tumon Bay Music Festival. The eight members representing the ensemble at this year’s Tumon Bay Music Festival are Bella Huang, Sean Lee, Raylene DeBenedictis, Concertmaster Elizabeth Mamczarz, Carol Huang, Jamie Xu, Caleb Kim, and Vinicia Kim.
Ao Zhang
Mr. Ao Zhang is a professional violinist who graduated from Tianjin Conservatory in China majoring in Violin Performance. After 17 years of playing violin and serving as the concertmaster of Tianjin Symphony Orchestra, he moved to Saipan in 1992 and established Do Re Mi School of Music to teach violin to the students in the CNMI. Starting in 2014, Mr. Zhang had ventured out to teach violin to students in Guam, and in 2018 Mr. Zhang finally made Guam his home. For more than 30 years Mr. Zhang has been fulfilling his dream of teaching violin to students of all ages and ethnicities in Micronesia. Many of his students have won in various local and international violin competitions and some were admitted to the best conservatories and music programs in the United States. His notable accomplishments include the recent admission of one of his students into Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University.
