SATOSHI OGATA, ukulele
BIOGRPAHY
At the age of 6, I started to learn the piano. After moving to Guam at the age of 9 I transferred to playing the violin. I was in Harvest Christian Academy’s beginner, intermediate, and I am currently in the advanced Orchestra. In seventh grade (12 years old) I started to take ukulele lessons at Harvest Christian Academy. In the same year, I was able to win the ukulele award at the school. Going into high school, I also joined the symphony orchestra. I also joined the TRI-M honor society in my sophomore year. During my first TRI-M year, I was able to play a solo for the TRI-M recital with my ukulele. Recently, I played in a Japan Saturdays event to spread both the Japanese culture by playing Japanese songs on the ukulele, and also connecting the island's cultural instrument. Since seventh grade, I haven’t taken any other classes in-person, but I have studied and learned many of the ukulele pieces by listening and watching professional ukulele players play. Last year I won the Tumon Bay Music festivals gold award and command performance in the solo category, and I was also invited to join the Tumon Bay Youth Orchestra. After joining I had played in numerous concerts with both the ukulele and the violin. Some memorable ones are the finale concert and the St. Cecilia concert. |
