Raymond V. Lujan, Fafa'nå'gue
Raymond Lujan was born January 21, 1986, to Barbara Cepeda and Jose SN Lujan, both from the village of Sinajåna. Currently a resident of the village of Yona and a CHamoru Language and Culture teacher at Southern High School. Prior to teaching at SHS, was one of two CHamoru teachers at Oceanview Middle School for twelve years.
His journey as a musician started at St. Francis Catholic School in Yona. In 1992, he was selected to be a member of the St. Francis Children’s Choir under the direction of Cathy Calvo Cruz. For the next 8 years, he participated in yearly school productions as well as the recording of two CDs, It’s Christmas on Guam and The Island Rhythm. Presently, He is still an active member of the St. Francis Church Choir.
From 2000 to 2004, He attended Notre Dame High School in Talofofo. He participated in the school choir, the NDHS Chamber Singers. He was also active in the writing of his class songfest production for all four years. The summer prior to his freshman year, he also joined the Natibu Cultural Dancers under Benjie Santiago and continued until 2008. From 2006 until 2008, he was a dancer for Aloha’s Polynesian Show at the Okura Resort and Spa.
In 2008, joined the ranks of Taotao Tano’ Cultural Dancers under Master of CHamoru Dance Frank Rabon. He was selected to attend the 10th Annual Festival of Pacific Arts in American Samoa as a dancer with the performing arts delegation. Upon returning to Guam, he continued with TTCD and assisted Master Frank Rabon with the establishment of the Guam Chamorro Dance Academy in Japan under the Guam Visitors Bureau. He also became a member of Guma’ Råsan Åcho’ Latte under Brian Terlaje as a musician.
In 2010, he began his teaching career at Oceanview Middle School and would continue for 12 years. It was at Oceanview Middle School where he established Guma’ Nina’en Åcho’ Latte. In 2012, he was selected to attend the 11th Festival of Pacific Arts in the Solomon Islands as a musician with the performing arts delegation. He was also able to attend the Pacific Islander Festival in San Diego California with the Guam Delegation. The same year, he, as well as three other teachers, were recognized with the title of Fafanå’gue.
In 2016, he was selected as a musician for the 12th Festival of Pacific Arts under the Guam Delegation. In 2018, he participated with Guma’ Nina’en Åcho’ Latte in the first Annual Taga Festival in Tinian. In 2022, he established the Kinahulo’ Tuninos branch at Southern High School.
