Harvest Christian Academy Symphony Orchestra
Biography
The music department at Harvest Christian Academy desires to teach students to honor God through their musical abilities. While developing a love for good quality music, students also learn concepts that can be applied to all areas of life and education.
The Harvest Christian Academy Orchestra Program exists to develop musicians who are who are sensitive to beauty, attentive to detail, personally disciplined, joyfully collaborative, and seeking to serve God and others. The strings program began in 2004 and has developed to include beginning, intermediate, and advanced groups. The Intermediate Orchestra meets after school twice weekly and includes students in upper elementary and above. The High School String Orchestra, which meets three times weekly as an elective, is composed of 9th-12th grade students. Students in the High School String Orchestra also participate in the Symphony Orchestra, which includes winds and percussion and meets twice weekly before school.
The HCA Orchestras have been featured in the Tumon Bay Music Festival for many years. Last semester, the orchestras performed in the HCA Fall Concert and Christmas Concert. They are currently preparing for their Spring Concerts in April.
Many of the students are members of the Tumon Bay Youth Orchestra and the Guam Symphony Orchestra. They are frequent soloists in recitals at Harvest and with other local studios.
