Estrellita - Manuel Ponce (1882-1948), arr. Jascha Heifetz
Estrellita, originally written for the female voice in Spanish, is a beautiful ballad written by Mexican composer Manuel Ponce. Translated to English, the words describe a woman’s call to “little star” about her undying love, which she should die for if unanswered.
The piece became internationally recognized when world-famous violinist, Jascha Heifetz, arranged and performed the piece for the film They Shall Have Music by Archie Mayo. Estrellita is often played as a violin encore and immediately captures the hearts of all who listen.
